Description

Antique framed prayer / poem / manuscript book page from the Shahnameh epic featuring Persian / Arabic / Iranian / Islamic calligraphy arranged in geometric lattice design.

The Shahnameh or Shahnama is a huge Persian epic located in about sixty thousand verses, compiled by Abu Qasim Ferdowsi, and ""considered the greatest Persian literary work of all time.""

It was organized by Ferdowsi for Sultan Mahmud al-Ghaznawi, illustrating in it the history of the Persians from the legendary eras until the time of the Islamic conquest and the fall of the Sasanian state in the mid-seventh century AD. Translated into Arabic, in prose, by Al-Fath bin Ali Al-Bandari, who died in 643 AH.
It is the only Arabic translation of the Shahnameh. The Egyptian Abd al-Wahhab Azzam verified it on five manuscripts, one in Berlin, the other in Cambridge, two copies in the Tob Qubusray, and the fifth in the Koberli Library, and the Berlin copy was adopted as the most complete copy. It was printed in two volumes in Cairo in 1350 AH.
