Antique Monks Bench / Hutch Table
The term hutch table took form in the early 18th century when it was important to maximize storage and space. The combination of a table and a chest that could quickly be converted into a chair or settee. This beautiful example comes to us from the latter half of the 19th century. Drawing form from William & Mary styling combined with other historical English influences. Made from Quartersawn oak with a rectangular plank top that tilts upward to reveal an exquisite engraved back crest. The bench showcases a rectangular form with strong arm rest supported by turned baluster supports. The box shaped base features a beautifully carved front with mirrored serpents framed by a beaded trim. The seat lid lifts open for accessory storage. The piece is supported by bun feet with wooden casters.
