Description

Antique Victorian 10K gold buttercup / floral shaped ring set with a cabochon turquoise stone, crafted by the Allsopp Brothers.

Not many people are aware that Newark, New Jersey was a major hub for the manufacture of jewelry from the late 1800's until the 1950's. The Allsop Brothers influenced this trend, making their mark in the jewelry arena with fine designs that included gemstone rings and birthstone jewelry. Henry and George A. Allsop, both English natives, founded their business in Newark in 1887 as ""H. Allsopp & Co."" (later changed to ""Allsopp Brothers""). What began as a small venture grew to a steady business with many employees and several traveling salesmen.
