Description

Vintage Royal Doulton John Peel Toby / Character Jug depicting the famous English huntsman in a black top hat. Produced in England and dating circa 1939–1955. Designed by Harry Fenton.

John Peel (1776 – 1854) was a legendary English huntsman from Cumberland, renowned throughout the 19th century for his extreme enthusiasm, outdoor skill, and legendary hospitality. He became a foundational folklore figure in British culture, largely due to the famous 1820s hunting song titled "D'ye ken John Peel?" (meaning "Do you know John Peel?") written by his close friend John Woodcock Graves.
