Description

Very large and impressive antique Japanese porcelain charger plate featuring a detailed hand-painted garden scene with various artists and scholars. Some of the figures can be seen playing games and the others painting.

In the foreground, two elderly scholars are seated on the floor playing the traditional board game Go (Igo, weiqi, or baduk). One figure wears a vibrant orange and green robe, while the opponent wears an intricately patterned blue and green robe. To the left, a figure and teacher are focused on painting a scroll. Behind them, a figure in a black robe observes another figure in a grey robe painting a landscape.

The scene takes place in a traditional room that opens up to nature. The background is filled with a dense canopy of pink cherry or plum blossoms, blending the indoor activity with an elegant outdoor setting.
