Description
Vintage silk scarf designed by the legendary French couturier Jacques Fath.
Along with Christian Dior and Pierre Balmain, Jacques Fath was one of the dominant figures of postwar Parisian haute couture. While his fashion house famously closed its haute couture operations in 1957 following his death, the brand successfully pivoted to producing highly collectable mid-century luxury accessories, including perfumes and hand-rolled silk scarves.
This specific piece highlights Fath's signature flair for theatrical, artistic storytelling and bold, illustrated prints. The graphic depicts an elegant, Asian-inspired scene: The Musician: A seated, elaborately costumed figure plays a large, golden stringed instrument resembling a sitar or veena. The Companion: A stylized woman with a dramatic high ponytail and delicate blue feather hair ornaments looks on. Large peacock feathers sprout from a vase on the left, flanked by sweeping, stylized grain or palm borders framing the central scene.
