Description

Rare antique French Victorian vanity mirror. Made of gilded bronze featuring Neoclassical and Rococo styling with an intricate openwork motif of foliate scrolls and acanthus leaves. At the top is an oval, swiveling mirror with a thick beveled edge and Grotesque style gallery. It is mounted on two vertical supportive pillars. Directly below the mirror sits a fitted, round etched crystal bowl or basin. This was traditionally used to hold jewelry, trinkets, pins, or a pocket watch, but could also be used for shaving. At the bottom base there are integrated cylindrical lattice-work holders fitted with small glass jars capped with silver lids, meant for cosmetics, perfumes, or creams. The frame is supported by a four-legged, wide-spreading pierced base adorned with a center hanging flourish.
