Description
This vintage S. Bent & Bros. Colonial Revival Windsor chair features a classic Hitchcock-style thumbback design. Crafted from hard rock maple—the piece showcases an ebonized black painted finish accented with traditional gold stenciled trim along the turned legs, cross stretchers, and backrest. The upper backrest displays a wide, gently curved crest rail detailed with a faint, hand-decorated floral or fruit motif. Below the top rail, four contoured arrow-back spindles offer ergonomic support down to a sculpted plank saddle seat. Supported by outward-flared turned legs joined by an H-stretcher, the chair exhibits a heavy, rustic patina with prominent surface wear, revealing the lighter natural wood grain underneath along the high-contact edges and seat.
S. Bent & Brothers, Inc out of Gardner Ma. was started in 1867 and made colonial chairs, rockers, children's chairs, breakfast sets and institutional furniture. S. Bent & Brothers, Inc. closed in 2001
