Description

Vintage oil painting on burlap after Bartolomé Esteban Murillo's famous work, Children Eating Grapes and a Melon.

The original masterpiece was painted by Spanish Baroque artist Bartolomé Esteban Murillo around 1650 and is housed in the Alte Pinakothek museum in Munich. The painting depicts two impoverished children eating fruit in a street setting, a theme Murillo used to portray the poverty he observed in Seville, Spain. The scene is noted for its naturalism and use of chiaroscuro—a strong contrast between light and dark—to focus attention on the figures.

Baroque gold scalloped foliate and acanthus resin frame.

Condition

wear to frame, some resin loss; heavy crazing to canvas.
