Description

Vintage portrait oil painting on linen of Maria Adelaide of France dressed in Turkish-style clothing, created after the Swiss painter Jean-Étienne Liotard who originally painted it in 1753. Gold resin scrolled foliate and acanthus frame.

Jean-Étienne Liotard (1702–1789), known for his detailed pastels and oil paintings, often depicting subjects in exotic or Eastern attire after his travels. Maria Adelaide of France (1732–1800) was a daughter of King Louis XV and Queen Maria Leszczyńska. The artwork captures a serene, intimate moment of the royal subject relaxing and reading, dressed in a fashionable "Turkish" costume popular in European art during the 18th century.

The original painting is housed in the Galleria degli Uffizi (Uffizi Gallery) in Florence, Italy.
