"William A. Rogers was a New York shopkeeper who founded his business in 1881 (according to Decisions of the Commissioner of Patents and of the United States Courts in Patent and Trade-Mark and Copyright Cases - Wm. A. Rogers, Limited, v. International Silver Co.,1910). Silverplated flatware production began circa 1894-96. The (R) Rogers (R) mark was first used about 1901, and the 1881 (R) Rogers (R) mark was first used about 1910. The W.R. Keystone mark was used for half plate flatware and medium grade holloware. The firm acquired/succeeded the Niagara Silver Co. around 1904 and bought Simeon L. & George H. Rogers Co. in 1918. The firm was an Ontario, Canada corporation active in New York and North Hampton, MA, when it was bought by Oneida in 1929."
