Early to mid 20th century oil on board painting by Gustave Gutgemon. Impressionist landscape depicting the forested edge of a lake surrounded by hills, with a sailboat floating in the distance. Signed, lower left. Beveled gilt composite frame with foliate detail.

"Gustave Gutgemon (1867 - 1959) was active/lived in New York / Germany. Gustave Gutgemon is known for Portrait painting, murals, cyclorama. He was one of six Staff Artists who in 1899 in Philadelphia produced a cyclorama depicting the Battle of Manila. Their work toured the nation. In 1906 he painted three large allegoric murals of Justice that still adorn the stairway of the Syracuse Courthouse. He was a member of the Painters and Sculptors Society of New Jersey, Inc, and a former instructor at the Pratt Institute for Decorative Art, Brooklyn and the Art Studio for Decorative Designs, New York.
