Description

Late 18th Century George III Period Secretary Desk & Bookcase. Made from mahogany with a hooded pediment showcasing dentil molding over a glass covered display portion with beautiful fretwork opening to three adustable shelves. The slant top or 'Fall Front' portion of the desk opens to reveal hand dovetailed drawers and pigeon holes flanking a central cabinet and hidden slides. Above the desk portion are two pull-out shelves which would have been used as candle stands so that the desk could be used in the evening. The case of the secretary features four hand dovetailed oak drawers with traditional brass bale hardware and ornate escutcheon plates. The case of the cabinet is supported by bracket feet. This large and beautiful bookcase exhibits rich mahogany grains and will make a statement in any space.

Good Antique Condition; General wear from age and use. Split in wood along left side of secretary base from aging.
