"Gotthilf Lufft founded the firm Mech Werkstatt G Lufft in Stuttgart, Germany in 1881. They made aneroid barometers, hygrometers and other meteorological instruments. They built a new factory in 1891 and produced altimeters for the German military during WWI. Gotthilf died in 1921. Lufft bought the French firm E Hue in Paris in 1925 to expand their market in France. They started making bimetallic thermometers in 1932. They sold the E Hue company prior to the outbreak of WWII. Lufft survived the post WWII conditions in Germany and prospered until the 1980s. They stopped making aneroid barometers in 1986. After 1989, under new ownership, they successfully made the transition to digital instrumentation. Since 2012, their mechanical instrumentation is made by Fischer." (Analog Weather)
