Description

Mid to late 20th century Alka Kaiser porcelain nut / bonbon / trinket dish in the Residenz pattern. Round form with gilded edge, hand painted with a spray of flowers. Sticker for Golden Crown E&R. Made in West Germany.

"August Alboth (d. 1908) of Coburg founded his porcelain finishing factory - Porzellanveredelung August Alboth - in 1872. His son Ernst (d. 1927) joined in 1875. Following his father's retirement, Ernst moved the factory from Coburg to Kronach, Bavaria in 1899. Ernst Alboth had two children - son Willy (d. 1991) and daughter Erna. Erna in 1922 married the Munich banker Georg Kaiser (1895-1964) , who would later lead the company with his father-in-law. Willy Alboth joined his father and brother-in-law in 1925. After the death of Ernst in 1927, the company name was then changed to "Alka-Kunst". Goerg and Willy founded a new factory in Kronach in 1928. The Porzellanfabrik AL-KA Kunst Alboth & Kaiser survived from 1928 until 1951. They acquired the Silbermann porcelain company in 1938, which became their main supplier for the "white goods" in the porcelain-finishing process. In 1951 the company name became The Porzellanfabrik AL-KA Kunst Alboth & Kaiser K.G led by Georg Kaiser, Willy Alboth and Hubertus Kaiser (1923-1998, Georg's son, who first became a partner in 1945). The was moved to Staffelstein in 1956. In 1970 the trademark was changed from Alka to Kaiser Porzellan. After German reunification problems of the porcelain business in the country increased. The company went through various changes in management through the early 2000's, with Porzellan Design Bad Staffelstein GmbH & Co KG taking control in 2003. In 2010 Kaiser was combined with Goebel Porzellan under the new owner, PM Kapital GmbH & Co KG, Bad Staffelstein." (Source: Kaiser Porzellan / The Old Stuff)
