49 piece partial set of Limoges porcelain dinnerware by Charles Ahrenfeldt featuring gilded edges and a printed patterned border of interlocking swags in a light golden-green. Marks used from circa 1894-1930’s.
"German-born Charles Ahrenfeldt (1807-1894) began importing porcelain to New York City in the 1830s. During the 1840s, Ahrenfeldt moved to Paris and opened a porcelain decorating factory. Sometime in the 1860s, Ahrenfeldt established an exporting firm in Limoges. In 1884, he established a decorating factory in Limoges. Around the same time, Ahrenfeldt also began manufacturing porcelain. Following the death of Charles in 1894, his son Charles J. Ahrenfeldt (1856-1934) assumed control of the company. In 1896, he built a second factory in Montjovis near Limoges. M. Grob (the company's manager and Zurich agent) assumed control of Ahrenfeldt in 1917. The company produced high-quality porcelain, winning a Grand Prix at the 1925 Art Deco Exhibition. The factory was expanded in 1925. When Grob died in 1934, his widow became manager. A financial investor purchased the company in 1958. Downsizing attempts failed. The company ceased operations in 1969.
