German Victorian Fairings Figurine Returning Home at one Morning 4"

Description

This is a humorous bisque fair figurine that features a naughty husband who, per the wording on the front bottom, has come home at one o'clock in the morning. As you can see, his wife is not happy and has him bent over the bed and being spanked with what is in her hand, perhaps a shoe or slipper.

Fairings, as they are often called, were small figurines, trinket boxes, match strikers or decorative porcelain pieces such as this one that were purchased or given as prizes at fairs during the Victorian era. They often featured humorous scenes, such as this one, but also domestic and political ones as well, and often with captions like you see on this one.
