Chinle became a distinct Navajo weaving style in the 1920s, a time when several new regional styles emerged. These new regional styles were all inspired by Navajo Transitional Period designs, which typically featured striped motifs and vegetal dyes. Indeed, Chinle rugs are also called “Chinle Revival” rugs because of their homage to weavings from the Transitional Period.
