Description
French Louis Philippe style bookcase, circa 1860s. Made from pine with a paneled back, removable shelves and lower dovetailed drawer with porcelain handles. Supported by turned peg feet. Great for display of books or collectibles. The cabinet was constructed using mortise and tenon jewelry will nails added for molding and trim.
The style of architecture and design under King Louis Philippe I (1830–1848) was a more eclectic development of French neoclassicism, incorporating elements of neo-Gothic and other styles. It was the first French decorative style imposed not by royalty, but by the tastes of the growing French upper class. Louis Philippe furniture had the same types and forms as the earlier French Restoration style, but with less decoration; comfort was the primary consideration.
Condition
Good Antique Condition; Distressing commensurate with age. Some modern nails added through the ages. Appears to have had a larger crown in the past
