Description

A rare and impressive mid 19th century French cast iron fireplace insert or surround. Features a concave form with meticulous detail. The insert is characterized by a field of animal scales giving off a leather like feel. At the center is a floral wreath with neoclassical ribbon knotted around a spear with olive branches extending through it. The sides of the insert feature an ornamental design with a charm of a diamond and cameo resting upon an acanthus leaf surrounded by vines. The insert is framed along the inner and outer edge by a ribboned rope trim. A gorgeous piece that will add grandeur to any setting.
