Unique Thorens Switzerland music box from the 1940s. Music box is a circular disk, approximately 2.5" in diameter, with a lever coming out of one side. Music box plays 'Happy Birthday' and was designed to be placed inside of a cooked birthday cake. When cake is cut, knife pushes down on the lever and starts the playing of 'Happy Birthday'! The lever has a small hole at the end for tying a piece of thread through ~ thread can be positioned on plate to help indicate placement of lever. The housing of the music box is aluminum with 'THORENS Switzerland Pat. App. For' embossed on it. Winder appears to be brass, Bottom of music box is wood embossed with 'Thorens Inc, New Hyde Park, NY'.
