Description
Antique early hand painted tin friction toy in the shape of a monkey dressed in the typical organ grinder’s outfit with hands and feet clasped to hold a string. Attributed to Lehmann.
Founded by Ernst Paul Lehmann Patenwerk in Brandenberg, Germany, the Lehmann toy company produced many highly collectible toys from 1880 into the 1930s. They were renowned for their detailed, brightly colored lithographed mechanical tin toys. This popular mechanical tin toy monkey was designated EPL 385, and pre-dates ""Tom"" a later version of the same toy. By putting one end of the string under your foot, and then pulling on the top of the string the monkey climbed to the top. He's painted wearing a green coat, yellow vest and red pants.
