Description

Colonial Manufacturing Company solid mahogany "George Washington" writing table. A rectangular form fashioned after Sheraton styling. Made from mahogany with crotch or flame mahogany veneer drawer fronts. Features seven drawers, brass bail hardware, ornamental medallions and removable letter holders. The desk is supported by 8 turned, fluted and tapered legs leading to brass capped arrow feet.

The original 1789 George Washington Writing Table is currently on display in the governors room in New York City's City Hall. A federal period piece that was used by Washington when it was located in Federal Hall, the first capitol building for the United States where he was inaugurated as President.
