Vintage Roger Haas watercolor painting showing four Amish women in a row with shawls and bonnets. “Roger Haas was born on October 5, 1918. Mr. Haas was a 1936 graduate of Steele High School in Dayton and a student at the Dayton Art Institute. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 as a member of the 14th Cavalry Regiment, Third Brigade, Second Cavalry Division, seeing action in the Rhineland Campaign in 1944-1945 as a member of the 89th Regiment Cavalry, 9th U.S. Armored Division of the Third U.S. Corps of the 1st U.S. Army. He was a member of the Society of the Remagen Bridge. After the war Mr. Haas returned to Dayton and worked at A.O. Smith in Tipp City as a quality control supervisor until he took an early retirement in 1975 to fulfill his dream of becoming a full-time artist. He became nationally acclaimed and received many awards for his work in watercolors, specializing in landscapes and the Amish. Haas was a charter member of the Ohio Water Color Society, a member of Ohio Water Color and Sculptors, Tipp City Valley Arts and Crafts and Lyons Club International, who honored him with the Melvin Jones Fellowship. He passed away peacefully at home in Tipp City, Ohio on August 17, 2007.”
