1990’s Erica Child Prud’homme watercolor still life painting “Fruit in a Wooden Bowl.”, painted in Maine. Erica Prud’homme is captivated by the symmetry and grace of natural forms, by nature’s repetitive patterns such as wood grains, fish scales and waves, by seasonal changes and by the relationship of human bodies to these natural forms. The human circulatory system suggests a river’s watershed, while bodies and faces duplicate mountain ranges or clouds. Human limbs echo the limbs of trees. She explains, “We human beings are an integral part of nature, repeating the curves and planes we see around us. I aim to celebrate this connection to our environment.”

Prud’homme learned to draw from her father and uncle, Charles and Paul Child, both artists. She studied with Robert Beverly Hale and Roberto De Lamonica at the Art Students League of New York, and did graduate studies in anthropology at the University of New Mexico. She worked as an architectural draftsman in Philadelphia and as an exhibition designer at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. She has been a member of the cooperative Blue Mountain Gallery in New York since 1992.
