Description
Susan Dallas-Swann trained as a painter before focusing on the intricate patters of light. Trying to match in pigments the delicacy and intensity that the eye could see she began using light as her medium. Her large and small scale light sculptures use lenses and lamps to create strange and beautiful luminous forms Images projected from the light sculptures are documented as digital prints. She also collaborates with other performers, musicians and artists to create sensory surrounds. Large and small scale indoor and outdoor sculptures, performances and events immerse the viewer real time and space.

EQuinoz '90-2000 a ten year project began at the Headlands Center for the Art that collected messages about what the future might hold. This dawn to dusk event began when the sun turned on a solar switch that controlled the light sculpture projecting an animation that cycled throughout the month. The environment was filled with rainbow colors of light from diffraction gratings on the large windows as the sun moved across the sky. The light sculpture suspended on redwood projected a revised lcarus myth. International Messages were received by fax, mail, video and performances in response to a call for entries asking what wants, hopes, fears and wishes were held for the future century. Storytellers, dancers, musicians and poets performed to celebrate the last vernal equinox of the 20th century.
The messages Gathering from people occurred at sites around the worlds and documented the introduction of fax, email and the web. The messages were published in magazines each year and are available on the EQuinox 90-2000 website providing a sampling of the socienty then with many predictions that are accurate now.
