Description

#25874-BH4E
Vintage Chinese Sang de Boeuf glazed porcelain vase. Sang de Boeuf, aka Flambe glaze, is a rich and glossy blood red glaze produced by a method that incorporates copper oxide as a coloring agent and firing in a reducing atmosphere, a method first discovered during the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644). The technique was perfected during the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1911), and particularly so during the reign of K'ang Hsi (or Kangxi), when some of the finest pieces of sang de boeuf were created. This piece dates to the early 20th century.
