Description

Robert Wallace of Wallace Silversmiths was born in Prospect, Connecticut in 1815. As the son of an immigrant he found work under Captain William Mix a spoon maker for Meriden Britannia Company. After mastering the art of silver craft he left the apprenticeship and opened a small shop in 1833. Having mastered spoon making it took a while (1875) before he ventured out into sterling and holloware. Robert died in 1892, and the sons and son in law brought the company into the 20th century as it grew to be known as the largest manufacturer of tableware.
