Description

A true masterpiece by Lt. Robert Strickland Thomas R.N (1787-1853). A British painter and Naval Officer. Robert's pieces have sold at Christie, Sotheby's and other noted Auction Houses. Most of his pieces feature Naval ships in action. Some coming too and from the port, while others on the front-line. The majority being medium sized canvas.

Here we have a large Canvas featuring a full on war scene with the HMS Victory entering the French Line at the Battle of Trafalgar. Painted in the 1830s, in England. A truly amazing piece of history, with exquisite detail. You can see the canons blazing with smoke flowing off of each ship. The masts scarred with holes from all of the canon balls. The canvas and frame are both indicative of the age of the piece. In addition there is a note by Robert attached to the backside. You can see the ink has oxidized over the past 200 years into a bronzed color.

This piece was purchased from a private collector in Ontario during the early 90's, and has not been sold since.
