Description

A massive still life by Emilie Preyer (1849-1930). Emilie was lived in Germany and was known for still life paintings. Signed along the lower right. Grapes, pears and apples can be seen along the ground in front of a gold vase with bouquet of flowers. The piece is very vibrant in color with matching accents intertwined between the flowers, vase and fruit. Framed in a distressed wood with and Gesso trim between the canvas and frame.

Biography

After an early training with her father, Johann Wilhelm Preyer (German, 1803-1889), Emilie painted her first still life in 1867. She worked in the same meticulous technique, perhaps slightly less accomplished, as that of her father.

Her oeuvre consists of mainly still lifes of fruit, apart from several early floral still lifes, and numbers about two hundred fifty paintings.
