Description
Beautiful early 1800s painting. Possibly before Charles Louis Lucien Muller's (1815-1892) famous piece. Depicts Victims of the Reign of Terror at Saint Lazar after the French Revolution. Impeccably detailed identifying the chaos at hand. Peasants can be seen in distress amongst soldiers in the background. A very eerie yet intriguing scene. Unsigned Canvas.
If you compare this piece with the Muller's you will see that the people in his look very relaxed, while in this piece they look under duress in the chaotic scenario. This would lead one to think that this piece predates his.
Condition
Good Overall Considering Age. - Some Loss to Canvas along the lower left; Could Use Re-stretching to cover the tear. Past repairs can be seen on the rear. Nail Hole along upper. Would benefit from a cleaning. See Pictures for best description
